Jonathan Dickinson State Park

1st time camping, alone. Well with Taco actually. Took the Jeep up to the aforementioned park with a Tent that connects to your car. Reserved a site, so it wasn’t as primitive as one would think. I had a bathroom nearby with a shower which surprisingly has hot water. Not that one would make much use of that feature during a Florida summer.

The park was nice, it reminds me of other Florida parks with the endless view of yellow pines with small sawgrass if I’m not mistaking filling the in between. During my brief stay, we walked towards the Loxahatchee river which was pleasant. The sound of birds chirping filled the background while the occasional wildflower attracted my eyes. We stopped to fish but as you can imagine, my only catch was at the Costco section from previous days. A wild caught skin on salmon fillet.

Other than the slight Florida heat and the lovely mosquitoes joes, the experience turned out to be alright. I do have some profound respect for those that lived in Florida two-three hundred years ago, for this truly is only a place a “Florida Man” can survive.

Ps: In front of the lookout tower there is a kiosk with a brief history on the park and how it came to be. It used to be a training area for the army…a specific unit dealing with radars. I’ll leave the rest for you to find out.
